Student Commuter Alternatives Program (CAP)

The Commuter Alternatives Program is a regionally and nationally recognized program designed to encourage and reward UNC students, faculty, and staff who do NOT drive alone to campus.  There are some great sources of alternative transportation information prepared especially for the commuting needs created by the student schedule and lifestyle.  Alternative commuting supports UNC’s Sustainability Goals that also include reducing traffic congestion and the number of vehicles parked on campus.

After August 1, students can register for CAP in person at Parking Services in the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

If you do not park on campus most days, and are a commuting student who bikes, or utilizes transit, walks, or rideshares, then you are already part of this effort – so please take the time to join. It’s free!

The CAP program encourages all forms of alternative transportation, including:

Bicycles (Free Bike Registration) Transit (Local and Regional)
Park and Ride Walking
Ride Share (Ride Matching) Zipcar (UNC Car Sharing Program)
