Metered Spaces
Intended for general use, metered spaces in most areas at UNC are US coin (quarters only) or debit key-activated weekdays, from 7:30 am - 9 pm and in the Morehead Planetarium area, Monday - Saturday, 7:30 am - 10 pm and Sundays, 1 pm - 10 pm (hours subject to change).
Cash keys may be obtained from the Department of Public Safety at a $10.00 minimum without a maximum denomination, upon payment of a $15.00 deposit. One dollar activates most meters for one hour, and the maximum time for occupying these metered parking spaces is three hours. Short-term meters on campus, however, are activated at $.50 per half-hour, and the maximum time for metered parking in these spaces is thirty minutes (2 hours at Morehead Planetarium). Metered spaces may be restricted during Special Event operations.
Visitor Pay Lots
There are six visitor parking areas on the UNC campus: the Dogwood Parking Deck, on Manning drive across from UNC Healthcare; the Morehead Planetarium Lot, off Franklin Street, next to Memorial Hall; the Rams Head Deck, off of Ridge Road; the Highway 54 Lot, on Highway NC 54, diagonally across from the Institute of Government; and the Ambulatory Care Lot, on Mason Farm Road, next to Columbia Street. The Swain Visitor Lot, off of Cameron Avenue, is available for reservations after 5:00 pm on weekdays and after 3:00 pm on weekends.
Parking rates are $1.25 hour in all visitor parking lots. Overnight parking is not permitted in the Morehead, Rams Head Deck, Swain, or Highway 54 Visitor Lots.
Spaces may be reserved in the Morehead or Highway 54 lots at a rate of $12/full day or $6/half day (morning- leaving before noon) or (evening arriving after 5 pm). Spaces may only be reserved in the Swain lot at a rate of $6 (evening arriving after 5 pm).
Reduced-rate coupon books may be issued by UNC Healthcare to in-patients needing extended parking at the rate of $4.00 / day. Coupon booklets shall be in five-day or ten-day quantities; individual daily coupons are issued upon request. (Persons may enter and exit during the same day using the same coupon).
The Morehead Lot
The Morehead Planetarium is located just off Franklin Street, to the east of the sundial and just in front of Morehead Planetarium Building and UNC Visitor Center. This lot accommodates visitors to the northern and central campus areas. This area is operational Monday - Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 a.m. (midnight), on Thursdays and Fridays, 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 a.m., and on Saturdays 3:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m., and Sundays, 3:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. Overnight parking is not allowed in this lot. The Morehead Lot is often filled by 9 a.m. If you are planning to direct a visitor to park in this lot, we advise that you make sure that they allow an additional fifteen to twenty minutes for parking.
The Ambulatory Care Center Lot
The Ambulatory Care Center Lot (ACC) is located off Mason Farm Road, adjacent to Columbia Street . It accommodates patients and visitors to the Ambulatory Care Center. The operating hours for the ACC visitor lot are: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 7 a.m.- 6:15 p.m. and Tuesday & Thursday 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Employees or students with medical appointments should request a temporary permit from the booth attendant upon entering the lot. UNC employees and students are allowed to used this area for appointments only and must register for an “affiliated use” permit.
Dogwood Parking Deck
The Dogwood Parking Deck is located on Manning Drive, diagonally across from UNC Healthcare. An attendant is on duty at all times except on University holidays. This deck accommodates visitors and patients at UNC Healthcare, UNC Dental School, and other medical facilities. UNC employees and students are allowed to used this area for appointments only and must register for an “affiliated use” permit.
Vehicles over 7’ in height are directed to park only in the first level of the Dogwood Deck. Books of reduced-rate, one-day coupons may be issued by UNC Healthcare to patients and patients' immediate family members needing extended parking. Persons may enter and exit during the same day using the same coupon.
The Highway 54 Lot
The Highway 54 Lot is located on Highway 54, one block east of Country Club Road. There is an attendant on duty Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. This lot accommodates all visitors to the UNC campus. Overnight parking is not allowed in this lot.
The Rams Head Deck
The Rams Head Deck is located off of Ridge Road. A parking attendant or automated pay station is on duty to receive payment for parking 24 hours a day, seven days a week unless otherwise posted. Student commuter permits for the deck are valid Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Students lacking the appropriate permit and any employee may park in the Rams Head and pay the hourly rate. The hourly parking fee is $1.25 per hour with a $30 daily maximum and reservations are $6.00 per half day (4 hours) and $12 per full day (8 hours). The lost ticket fee for this facility is $24 and no vehicle can park for more than a 24 hour period in the deck without exiting and paying the required fee. During holidays when the attendant is not on duty, the parking gates will be open, and there will be no charge for parking in the deck. There is not charge for visits of less than five minutes.
