Allocation Information

Allocation Information:

There are six different allocations established for the student body with a total of 3553 permits available for assignment.  The student allocation breakdown is as follows:

1.      Undergraduate/Graduate Allocation - There are 2514 permits assigned to this group, which represents 71% of the student parking allocation.  Returning students pre-register on-line during the month of April and May for parking for the next academic year.  Of the 2587 permits available, 2158 are distributed based on Student Government representatives dividing the available parking resources into classes, with upper classmen receiving the greatest percentages of parking permits.  Once the deadline for accepting requests for parking has passed, a random sort is completed and permits are assigned within their class based upon the zone requested.  The remaining 356 permits from this allocation are distributed based on a hardship circumstances that include job and/or family responsibility.  The Student Body President assigns a representative to coordinate the parking hardship process for the student body.  The Student Government Parking Representatives collect and review all hardship applications based on the individual merit of the application.  The Student Government Representative approves and assigns all permits set aside for hardship applications.

2.      Medical Students I & II Year Allocation: There are 40 permits assigned to this group, which represents 1% of the student allocation.  These permits are assigned on a lottery basis.

3.      Medical Students III & IV Year:  There are 138 permits assigned to this group, which represents 4% of the student parking allocation.  This allocation is administered through the Dean’s Office for Student Affairs at the Medical School.  A representative from this department determines the permit assignment. Any questions may be directed to Thomas Farrar at 962-8335.

4.    Law School Allocation: There are 223 permits assigned to this group, which represents 6% of the student parking allocation. The majority of the allocation is assigned based on a lottery system. First year law students are not eligible to apply for parking through the lottery system. A portion of the allocation is withheld from the lottery to assign through a hardship process. The Dean’s Office for Student Affairs within the Law School determines assignments for hardship applications.
Law Student Parking Pre-registration: Permits will be assigned by class seniority. If permits remain after assignment to 3rd year students, 2nd year students will be awarded permits. 1st year students are not eligible to apply for on-campus parking.
Any questions about the Law School parking allocation policies should be referred to Sylvia Novinsky at 962-7813. Law Student hardship applications will be available at the Law School in early April. All students who register for hardship parking, must also register online for the student parking lottery.

5.      Fraternity Court Allocation:  There are 44 permits assigned to this group, which represents 1% of the student parking allocation.  There are 11 permits assigned to each Fraternity House within the Big Fraternity Court.  The president from each House determines the assignment of the permits.

6.      Business School Allocation: There are 220 permits assigned to this group, which represents 6% of the student parking allocation.  These permits are distributed based on carpool status.  Students must establish carpools of at least 3 people to be eligible for a permit.  The program directors are responsible for assigning permits based upon the application pool.  Hardship situations are reviewed individually and assigned when necessary.  All GRADUATE  Business School students must pre-register for parking through the Business School.  Business school undergrads can register with their class.
