The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will install Dr. Holden Thorp as its 10th chancellor on University Day, Sunday, Oct. 12. Motorists and UNC parking permit holders should be aware of the following information, closures, and restrictions which will be in place on that Sunday in support of the installation ceremonies:
Cameron Avenue Closed: Cameron Avenue will be closed from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. to all through traffic except buses, emergency vehicles and those with special event parking permits for reserved lots along the University Day ceremonies corridor.
Reserved Lots: Lots accessed via Cameron Drive are reserved beginning as early as 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12th for those with permits for the University Day ceremonies. Signs at individual lots will indicate the exact times of reservations and restrictions. Vehicles without a special event permit for University Day ceremonies parking should be relocated; those vehicles without a special event left in these areas can be ticketed and / or towed at the owner's expense. Lots reserved for University Day ceremonies include:
Emerson Drive -- Bynum Circle Lots (Bynum, Steele, Caldwell)
Old East Lot -- Swain Lot -- Peabody Lot -- Wilson Lot
-- South Road Metered Spaces
Undergraduate Lot -- Cobb Parking Deck -- Morehead Lot
Public Parking: Public parking for University Day and Chancellor Thorp's installation will be available in south campus lots accessed via Skipper Bowles Drive, with shuttle service to the north campus beginning 90 minutes prior to the official start of the ceremonies at 3 p.m.
