Bike Month Events

If you haven’t ridden your bike this winter, it’s time to dust it off. May is National Bike Month, so join us outside and enjoy these exciting events to celebrate bicycling:

UNC's Bike to Work with Heels 

Thursday, May 8th, 11am - 2pm
The Beach Café at UNC (behind Bondurant Hall)

Join us at The Beach to get a free bike tune-up, pick up swag like bike bells and lights, and sign up to bike to work with other Tar Heels.  National Bike to Work Week is May 12-16, so get ready for a fun, energizing commute to UNC!

Carrboro's Bike Breakfast

Tuesday, May 13th, 7am - 10am
The Armadillo Grill (back parking lot)
120 East Main Street, Carrboro

Join in the fun, get your bike ready for safe cycling, and learn ways to get to and from work. Get information about various bike advocacy groups, explore wrenching tents, enjoy free coffee, hot biscuits, and great giveaways promoting cycling to and from work! 

Chapel Hill's Switching Gears Bike Night

Friday, May 16th, 6pm - 9pm
The Plaza at 140 West
140 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill

Bike in for these exciting, family-friendly activities: Gold Sprints Tournament, Slow Ride Races, Bike on Bus Demonstration and Competition, Bike Blender, Busy Bike Bells Station, Kid’s Safety Rodeo, Kids Bike Helmet Decorating Table, and the Bike Show Area (unusual and crazy bike show)!

New Point-to-Point (P2P) Summer Express

P2P Summer Express vans will operate 7 days a week from May to August when summer school is in session, frequently serving stops from 7pm to 4am. See map of route.

Chapel Hill Transit Summer Break Schedule

Chapel Hill Transit will operate on a summer break schedule from Saturday, May 10th through Friday, August 15th.  During this time, the weekday NU route will end at 8:29pm and the Safe Rides and Saturday/Sunday U and NU routes will not operate. Full service will resume on Saturday, August 16th.  Please note that the CM, CW, D and J routes will maintain regular schedules throughout the summer.

Holiday Schedule for Memorial Day

Chapel Hill Transit and Triangle Transit bus routes will not operate on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. Administrative offices will also be closed.

Tar Heel Express Shuttles to UNC Commencement Ceremony

Chapel Hill Transit will provide Tar Heel Express Shuttle Service on Sunday, May 11th from 7:15am to 12:30pm for the Commencement Ceremony at Kenan Stadium.  Shuttles will operate from the University Mall (201 South Estes Drive, Chapel Hill - on the South Estes and Willow Drive side of the Mall) and the Friday Center (100 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill) Park & Ride lots to Kenan Stadium on Stadium Drive (Gate 2). Buses will run every 10 to 15 minutes, providing continuous and fully accessible service. Shuttles and parking at the University Mall and the Friday Center will be FREE.

Riders are encouraged to arrive at the Park & Ride lots at least 1 hour prior to the start of the ceremony to allow for possible traffic delays. For those wishing to stay on campus longer, Carolina Livery will provide shuttle service from 12:30pm to 5:30pm. Carolina Livery shuttles will loop campus making stops at the Student Union, the Old Well on Cameron Avenue and the Dean E. Smith Center and returning to University Mall and the Friday Center Park & Ride lots.
